Essential Doctrines

The eternal nature of God (Revelation 1:8)
God is our Creator and Sustainer (Genesis 1:1; John 1:2-3; Hebrews 1:3)
The triune God (Matthew 28:19; John 14:20; II Corinthians 13:14)
The Deity and humanity of Christ (John 1:14, Philippians 2:6-7)
The death and bodily resurrection of Christ (I Corinthians 15:3-5)
Christ is the head of the church – believers should be involved in a local church body (Ephesians 1:22-23; Hebrews 10:24-25; Colossians 1:18; I Corinthians 12)
The Holy Spirit is our guide (John 14:26)
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness (II Timothy 3:16)
All are born with a sinful nature (Romans 3:23)
Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; II Corinthians 5:2)

Essential Beliefs

The Bible is the authoritative Word of God, which, by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, is sufficient to lead us to a saving faith in Christ and faithful discipleship
Both the Old and New Testaments are equally inspired by God; the New Testament, however, serves to interpret the Old, provides the fulfillment of the Old with the coming of Christ and is the foundation of Christian ethics
Salvation is only through accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, whose life and teachings are the foundation and example for all aspects of daily life, and through whom our lives are transformed
Conversion to Christ involves a conscious decision; baptism and church membership are therefore voluntarily accepted by those of an age who can make a responsible, life-changing decision
Becoming a Christian involves more than a statement of belief; it involves a life of discipleship, allowing the Holy Spirit to transform all aspects of life into Christ’s image as we follow His example
While the church has distinctions in role, all are equal in our access to God through Christ and therefore must be seen as equals in the church
The church is a covenant community; believers engage in worship, have fellowship together, practice accountability, and share in mutual aid as a corporate, covenant body
The church is in the world but separate from the world; it functions as a radical counterculture to the secular world and to civil religion, with ethics shaped by Christ and not by selfish desires or national pride
As Christians, we follow the example of Christ in showing love, making peace and seeking reconciliation with all, including personal and national enemies
Christians are called to follow the example of Christ in service by ministering to those in need in the name of Christ
The church has been commissioned to go into all the world, making disciples of Christ, baptizing them and teaching them to also become His disciples

Who we are in Christ

Believers are a community of faith in Christ (I Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 4:11-16)
Believers are given spiritual gifts (Acts 2:38; Romans 12:6-8)
Believers live in the world but are separate (I John 2:15-17)
Believers value biblical virtues such as worthiness, humility, gentleness, non-violence, unity, and equality (Ephesians 4:1-6; Romans 12:14-21)
Believers pursue a life-long personal commitment to follow Christ (John 15:5-6) and to share the good news of the Gospel (I Peter 3:15-16)
